What does research say about cocker spaniels and taurine?

Research from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) shows that many Cocker Spaniels may have low taurine levels, even when they appear healthy.
According to the researchers, this may be relevant for heart function, as taurine plays a central role in the work of the heart muscle.
Previous studies on English Cocker Spaniels with the heart disease DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) have also shown that low taurine levels were common in dogs with the disease.
Important balancing line: This does not mean that all Cocker Spaniels have heart problems.
But it makes nutrition extra relevant for those who want to work preventively.
